The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following the reported recovery of a substantial amount of cash at properties associated with Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu. The Income Tax department has uncovered over ₹300 crore in cash from the locations linked to Sahu’s family in Odisha, intensifying the political row and drawing attention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The marathon search operation, now in its sixth day, has seen an additional deployment of counting machines by the Income Tax department to facilitate the swift enumeration of the recovered currency notes. The searches have been conducted at various premises linked to Boudh Distillery Private Limited, a company tied to the family of the Congress lawmaker. The establishment, based in Boudh district of Odisha, has operations extending to Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The distillery company, headed by Sahu’s brother, has come under the scrutiny of the authorities, triggering strong condemnation from the BJP. Party chief JP Nadda stated, “Brother, you and your leader Rahul Gandhi will have to answer. This is new India; here, exploitation of the masses in the name of the royal family will not be allowed. You will be tired running away but the law will not give up pursuit.”
The BJP’s rhetoric escalates the ongoing political battle, with Nadda emphasizing that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, action against corruption remains a cornerstone of governance. This pointed attack underscores the party’s commitment to combating corruption and holding accountable those implicated in financial impropriety.
The raids, spanning multiple states, have shone a spotlight on the financial dealings of the distillery group, drawing attention to the significant seizure of currency notes with the counting still underway. The sizable sum recovered has heightened the urgency to probe the financial activities associated with the distillery, amplifying the political reverberations in the region.
As the income tax authorities intensify their efforts to ascertain the full extent of the financial discovery, the fervent political exchanges between the BJP and the Congress herald a pivotal juncture in the discourse on governance, accountability, and ethical conduct. The developments signify the significance of transparent financial dealings and adherence to the rule of law in the political sphere, resonating with the imperative of fostering an environment of integrity and responsibility within the public domain.
