The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the remaining schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024, with Chennai set to take center stage as the host city for the summit clash and various playoff matches. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings kick-started the IPL 2024 with a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

This season, the IPL will feature a total of 74 matches, all of which will be hosted within India. The playoffs stage will witness Ahmedabad and Chennai as the battlegrounds for the cricketing extravaganza. Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, home of the 2022 IPL winners Gujarat Titans, will host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator on May 21 and 22, respectively. Meanwhile, Chepauk – the home ground of Chennai Super Kings – is scheduled to host the Qualifier 2 on May 24, followed by the summit clash on May 26.

Chennai has played a pivotal role in IPL history, having previously hosted two IPL final matches in 2011 and 2012 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The city’s rich cricketing heritage and enthusiastic fan base are set to provide an electrifying atmosphere for the culminating encounters of IPL 2024.

Notably, in the previous season’s final, Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, secured their record-equalling fifth title by defeating Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller. The forthcoming IPL 2024 promises a riveting display of talent and competitive spirit, with the scenic grounds of Chennai poised to play a significant role in shaping the destiny of this season’s championship.
