Cher Expresses Frustration with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Snub

3 min read

Cher isn’t too pleased with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame not inducting her at any point in her iconic career, as she believes she deserves the recognition for her contributions to music. The “Believe” singer aired her grievances during a recent appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where she discussed her success on the charts over the years.

During the show, Kelly Clarkson highlighted Cher’s recent holiday single, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” which helped her secure another top spot on a Billboard chart. Cher’s achievement also meant that she became the first woman and solo artist to achieve a No. 1 hit in each of the past seven decades. Clarkson commented on this feat, stating, “No one will accomplish that,” to which Cher responded by mentioning the Rolling Stones who had achieved a similar feat as a band.

Cher pointed out that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame had inducted the Rolling Stones, who are among the illustrious ranks of those honored, but she, despite being eligible for induction since 1991, has never even received a nomination. This glaring oversight has placed her at odds with the Rock Hall’s recognition compared to other artists. Despite the Rock Hall’s newer and more inclusive ethos, Cher’s frustration remains palpable.

The singer’s frustration stems from the fact that she and the Rolling Stones are the only artists to have achieved No. 1 songs spanning across seven decades on the charts, yet the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has not formally recognized her contributions. She quipped about how it took four members of the Rolling Stones to achieve what she had done as a solo artist.

Cher’s remarks on the show also highlighted her indifference to the issue, stating, “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m not kidding you. I was about to say something else. I was about to say I’m not shitting you. I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.” This defiant stance emphasizes her firm belief in her own worth and the recognition she deserves, regardless of the Rock Hall’s decisions.

Cher’s comments shed light on the continued debate surrounding the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s selection process and the impact of recognition on artists’ legacies. Despite her frustration, Cher remains an influential figure in the music industry, with a career marked by numerous achievements and groundbreaking moments. Her resilience in the face of this snub serves as a testament to her enduring impact and unwavering self-confidence.
