Amid reports of an influenza-like illness outbreak among children in China, India is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the preventive healthcare norms among children, especially as it is flu season.

The outbreak of a pneumonia-like infection among children in China has prompted the Union Health Ministry of India to remain vigilant. While there is no immediate threat, considering the pollution in some Indian cities and the current virus season, maintaining behavioural practices focused on building respiratory hygiene is essential.

Dr. Neetu Jain, Senior Consultant in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at PSRI Hospital in Delhi, has emphasized the significance of internalizing hygiene measures to keep children healthy. This includes promoting regular hand washing, ensuring that children cover their nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing, maintaining distance from others, and using and safely disposing of tissues. Additionally, advocating the use of hand sanitizers, face masks in social situations, and other preventive measures can help mitigate the risks associated with the influenza outbreak.
