The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar jail on Sunday after his interim bail in the excise policy case expired, leading to a touching farewell with his family. Kejriwal, accompanied by his family and AAP leaders, departed from his residence for Tihar jail after seeking blessings from his parents and visiting Rajghat and the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.

Before leaving for Tihar, Kejriwal hugged his children and touched his parents’ feet, symbolizing a poignant departure. He then proceeded on a circuitous route, paying homage at Rajghat before visiting the Hanuman temple and the AAP headquarters. This emotional journey culminated with his surrender at Tihar jail, marking the end of his interim bail secured during the Lok Sabha elections.

The surrender follows an extension of judicial custody until June 5, as directed by a court in Delhi. Kejriwal’s appearance via video conference at the court came after the expiration of his interim bail, granted by the Supreme Court to facilitate his election campaign. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought a 14-day extension of Kejriwal’s judicial custody, with the court granting the request following his surrender at Tihar Jail.

Amidst this challenging period, Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court, emphasizing that every moment of his interim bail was utilized effectively for the benefit of the nation. He affirmed his commitment to the country’s well-being, stating, “I campaigned for all parties. I campaigned to save the country. The country is important, Aam Aadmi Party is second,” illustrating his unwavering dedication to public service.

The emotional farewell as Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail serves as a powerful reflection of the nexus between personal conviction and political responsibility. As the judicial process unfolds, the public’s attention remains ensnared by the evolving dynamics of governance and justice, underscoring the indelible impact of the Delhi Chief Minister’s journey.
