The UGT union, which holds the majority representation at the Ford Almussafes plant in Valencia, is confident that the government will provide assistance in the form of a “unique mechanism” to prevent the potential layoff of 1,000 workers. This mechanism aims to safeguard jobs until the arrival of a new hybrid vehicle. The union expects the design process for this mechanism to be completed before the end of the year, providing job protection for the workers until the new vehicle production starts in 2027.
Ismael Sáez, the Secretary General of UGT in Valencia, expressed that both the Ford management and the union anticipate government support to avoid these job losses, highlighting the commitment of the government towards the workers and the future of the plant. The negotiations regarding the plant’s collective dismissal are progressing positively, with both the union and the company prepared to explore alternatives until the commencement of the new vehicle production. The UGT union’s confidence in the government’s assistance underscores the collaborative efforts to secure and protect jobs amidst the industry’s transitions and challenges.
