At Google I/O 2024, the company is set to unveil its latest innovations in artificial intelligence (AI). The annual developer conference, which kicks off in Mountain View, California, today at 10AM PT / 1PM ET, promises to bring a world-class demonstration of Google’s strides in AI.

This year’s conference is marked by Google’s strategic realignment of its Search, Android, and hardware teams around the concept of artificial intelligence. With the company now valued at $2 trillion, it has gone “all in” on its suite of Gemini AI models, intensifying its competition with industry players such as OpenAI.

One of the highlights of this year’s event is the enhancement of the Gemini API, which offers developers new features such as the first-ever 2 million token context window, alongside the availability of Gemini 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash in Google AI Studio. Google encourages developers to explore these features and grab an API key to dive into the Gemini API Cookbook. Following the release of Gemini 1.0, the company introduced Gemini 1.5 Pro in February, the first model with a 1 million token context window. Additionally, Google has expanded capabilities for native audio understanding, system instructions, JSON mode, and more. The Gemini API is now available in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI for enterprise customers.

Furthermore, Google has introduced Gemma, a family of lightweight open models created from the same research and technology used in building the Gemini models. The 2B and 7B models have garnered millions of downloads since their launch, with new variants such as CodeGemma and RecurrentGemma added last month to cater to developers and researchers.

In a remarkable move, Google is leveraging its annual developer conference to showcase its lightest and most efficient AI models yet, positioning itself at the forefront of innovation in the field.

The tech giant’s commitment to advancing AI technology and making it accessible to developers underlines its dedication to shaping the future of artificial intelligence. With new developments and capabilities introduced at Google I/O 2024, it is evident that the company is determined to maintain its stance as a formidable force in the realm of artificial intelligence.
