A 61-year-old man with schizophrenia, Frederick Caruthers, is still missing three weeks after the St. Louis nursing home where he lived abruptly closed. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has issued an Endangered Silver Advisory, seeking the public’s help in finding Caruthers. He was among about 175 residents of Northview Village Nursing Home before it closed on December 15.

Caruthers is believed to have walked away from the Northview Nursing Home and has not been heard from since. According to the advisory, he is without needed medication. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is actively searching for him. Frederick Caruthers was last seen walking away from the nursing home at 2415 N. Kingshighway in St. Louis. He has brown eyes and gray hair, is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and weighs about 225 pounds. Police said he was wearing a brown hooded jacket, khaki pants, and dark tennis shoes with white shoelaces. As Caruthers requires essential medication for his schizophrenia, his situation is considered urgent.

Authorities have urged that anyone with information on his whereabouts call 911 or St. Louis police at 314-444-5504. His abrupt disappearance following the sudden closure of the nursing home has raised concerns about the welfare and safety of vulnerable individuals in such institutions.

The closure of the Northview Village Nursing Home has also come under scrutiny, as the abrupt shutdown not only displaced a large number of residents but also led to the concerning disappearance of Caruthers, highlighting the need for better contingency plans and oversight in such cases. This case underscores the vulnerability of those with mental health conditions and emphasizes the necessity for comprehensive safety measures to protect such individuals, as well as the importance of an effective response to emergency situations in care facilities.
