Nigerian labour unions have raised concerns about the country’s economic challenges, particularly the impact on workers’ survival. The President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, emphasized that increasing the workers’ minimum wage would not lead to increased inflation, pointing to the significant rise in revenue allocation to state governments since May last year.
Osifo noted that the increased revenue allocation provides a strong incentive to review an upward adjustment for the worker’s minimum wage. He further highlighted the critical role of workers in production and the importance of adequately compensating them.
