Prabhas continues to spread his magic in North America as “Kalki 2898 AD” adds new feathers to its cap. Within only 11 days, the epic dystopian science-fiction film has become the third-highest grossing Indian film in the USA/Canada markets. It has left behind biggies like Dangal, Animal, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan to climb up the ladder.

Nag Ashwin’s ambitious sci-fi film has become a box office phenomenon, grossing over $84 million worldwide and debuting at No. 3 globally. With an estimated budget of $72 million, it’s one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. Set in a dystopian future, “Kalki 2898 AD” follows Bhairava (Prabhas), a powerful warrior with mysterious origins.

The advance booking commenced in North American markets much before they began in India. The paid previews beat SS Rajamouli‘s RRR within the first few days, and that was a hint enough that this Nag Ashwin’s directorial will set new milestones in the overseas market. But what happened was unimaginable as big films from the South and the Bollywood industry were surpassed within a week of theatrical run.

The film blends elements of Indian mythology with futuristic technology, culminating in epic battles that span both physical and spiritual realms. Amitabh Bachchan plays Ashwatthama, an immortal being from the era of Indian mythological epic “Mahabharata,” while Deepika Padukone portrays Sumathi, a character who is pregnant with the unborn Kalki, an avatar of Vishnu. Kamal Haasan takes on the role of the antagonist Supreme Yaskin.

Now, India’s most expensive movie ever, made on a budget of around $75 million, has broken a global box office record. According to Collider, “Kalki 2898 AD” delivered the best opening weekend worldwide in the history of Indian cinema. The film grossed ₹555 crore in its first four days of release, which is equivalent to around $66 million. These numbers were provided by the production company Vyjayanthi Movies, so studio figures should always be taken with a grain of salt.

In essence, “Kalki 2898 AD” has firmly established itself as a box office powerhouse, making waves not only in North America but also globally, as it continues to captivate audiences with its blend of Indian mythology and futuristic elements. The film’s remarkable performance is a testament to the compelling storytelling and outstanding performances of its cast, particularly Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, solidifying its position as a groundbreaking cinematic experience that transcends boundaries. As audiences eagerly await its further success, “Kalki 2898 AD” stands as a shining example of the immense potential of Indian cinema in captivating global audiences and carving a distinct space in the international film industry.
