Singular Computing, a tech company headquartered in Massachusetts, has taken legal action against Google, accusing the tech giant of infringing on its patented AI technology. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court, alleges that Google incorporated Singular’s patented technology into its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) after meetings between the two parties. According to Singular Computing, Google met with the company’s founder, Joseph Bates, multiple times between 2010 and 2014, during which Bates reportedly shared his ideas with the tech behemoth.

During the court proceedings in Boston, a counsel for Singular Computing, Kerry Timbers, informed jurors that Google utilized the copied technologies as a foundation for AI features within its services, including Search, Gmail, and Translate. Additionally, jurors were shown emails authored by Google’s chief scientist, Jeff Dean, discussing how Singular’s technology could be “really well suited” for Google’s products (via Reuters).

This lawsuit is the latest addition to Google’s extensive history of legal disputes. As the case unfolds, it will be closely watched to see how the tech giant defends itself against these serious allegations.
