A volunteer who flew out to Tenerife to help find missing British teenager Jay Slater has dismissed the final police search for the teenager as a “massive PR thing.” Paul Arnott, who traveled to Tenerife to assist in the search, complained that “nobody is doing anything” after police and volunteers gathered for a large-scale search on Saturday. Slater, 19, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing on Monday 17 June after attending a weekend rave with friends. He was last seen on Monday 17 June after he told a friend he planned to walk from the northwestern village of Masca to his holiday accommodation in Los Cristianos in the south, a journey that would take 11 hours on foot.
The case remains open as police in Tenerife have declared the unsuccessful two-week search in the mountains over, despite the final coordinated attempt to locate Slater. Graham Wettone, a retired Scotland Yard officer, has urged Spanish police to accept an offer of help from their British counterparts, emphasizing that the disappearance is “certainly a very bizarre one” and that “lots of things just don’t add up.”
